Start- Open the menu.

L and R- L can be used for A and R for B. Set this by  going to Options.

Menu Controls

PokeDex--- Shows the Pokemon you've seen and caught, useful for catching Lati@s as it shows the location of the target, cry and size. Select to find a Pokemon.

Pokemon--- Check the stats of your Pokemon and more.

Bag--- Your items. The Bag is divided into 5 sections: Items(Potions and Hold Items), Pokeballs(For a complete list, Bonus Section), TMs and HMs(Also in Bonus), Berries(Bonus too) and Key Items, where vital things are kept.

PokeNav--- You get this after meeting the Devon Coporation Manager. Very useful, has A Map, Your Pokemon Conditions(Explained in Contest Section), and Ribbons. However in Emerald, you can get Match Call.

Save--- Save your game, what else?

Option--- Modify your Text Speed, Battle Scene, Battle Style, Sound, Button Mode and Frame.

Exit--- Quit the Menu, or just press B.

2.    Starting the game

Now that you've learned the controls, hit the Power button to on your GBA, SP or DS. (I played this with my DS) Start the R/S game and you're on your way to becoming a Pokemon Master.

    a.     Naming your character and choosing your gender

Prof. Birch will appear on the screen. He'll ask you if you're a boy or girl, then your name. A lot more talking, and the screen will fade...

    b.    Truck Ride

... and shifts to you riding in a truck! (Boy it's stuffy...) After some time, the truck will stop, and head out into the bright sunshine by using you Directional Pad for walking for the first time...

3.     LittleRoot Town

Your Mom will greet you warmly and take you inside your new home. Pokemon are moving furniture in there. You'll have to go upstairs to check out your new room as well as setting the clock.

    a.    Setting the Clock

It's simple. Just twirl your Clock Arms left and right with your Directional Pad, then hit A. You'll be asked if the time is correct. Of course! After that, Mom will come in, then go downstairs again. Do what she says, then go down to watch some TV...

Mom will tell you to come look at the TV. In future, TV can be useful. We'll cover that in the Bonus section. Some talking, and you'll have to greet your new neighbour...

    b.    Meeting your Rival

If you're a boy, your rival is a girl called May. If you're a girl, your rival is a boy called Brendan. No diff, actually. You'll have to walk to the next house, Boy's house is on the left and Girl's is on the right. Head up, and find your rival looking at the PC. Talk to him/her (I'll refer to rival as a boy) and then get your first partner at our next destination! Walk out of the house and head up...

4.    Route 101

   -Not Done Yet, Sorry-

                   Others---

                a.    Pokeballs

Pokeballs are used to catch Pokemon. This is done by opening your bag and taking a Pokeball from your

Pokeballs section. Your character will then hurl it at the Pokemon. Be warned however as Pokemon can break free of the Pokeball. Also, you can't capture some Pokemon( Trainer's Pokemon, or other Pokemon like the ghost Marowak in Pokemon FR and LG). You get a better chance of capture if the Pokemon has low health and has a status problem (Poison, Sleeping, Paralyze). Throughout the game you get to buy balls that can capture Pokemon easier. The Master Ball is a Pokeball that can capture any Pokemon without fail but each game only has one of each.

Pokeball Use Location
Pokeball A normal Pokeball Several town and cities, like Oldale, Petalburg
Great Ball   Rustboro and Slateport
